February baby sweater

I hope that fellow Feb baby sweater knitters can assist me. On EZ's directions, it states "at 4 1/2 ", work 25 sts, then work back and forth...." Should it be 4 1/2 " from the beginning of the gull pattern or 4 1/2" from the edge of the collar.

Also at the end, it states to cast off in P on the right side. Does that just mean to cast off using the purl stitch?

thanks for all the help!-sue

  • Hi Sue -

Definitely 4 1/2" from the beginning of the garment, and yes, cast off using the purl stitch on the right side (outside facing you) of the garment.

  • !!! I had that SAME question! I have been knitting 4-1/2 inches of lace, and then I realized other sweaters I'd seen didn't have as many lace repeats before separating for the arms. Doh!

  • Thank you. I have ripped this out 3 times now and still haven't been sure weather it is 4 1/2 inches from beginning or 4 1/2 inches of pattern. I have googled it and seen it done both ways but looks odd with 4 1/2 inches of pattern.

    Thank you so much!
